More than 120 civil‑rights organisations have issued a travel advisory warning fans, players and journalists heading to the 2026 World Cup in United States that the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown could pose serious risks. The advisory cites rising authoritarianism, racial profiling and potential entry denial for visitors.

The warning lists concrete dangers: denial of entry, arrests, travel bans on nationals from Iran, Haiti, Senegal and Ivory Coast, and heightened surveillance by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. It urges travellers to remove sensitive data from phones and keep contacts informed.

FIFA has responded that it remains committed to human rights but has been criticised for not providing concrete safety guarantees. Critics point to president Gianni Infantino’s close ties to Donald Trump, citing the 2024 Peace Prize he awarded the former president. FIFA insists it will promote protection of rights throughout the tournament.

The advisory underscores growing concern that the World Cup could become a platform for authoritarian practices, challenging organizers to deliver a safe, welcoming event. The situation remains unresolved as US officials have yet to comment.
