Pochettino Confirms Premier League Longing

Former United States boss Mauricio Pochettino has revealed he misses the Premier League despite his new role preparing the co-hosts for the 2026 World Cup. The Argentine, appointed to lead the US national team, told French publication L'Equipe he loves America but acknowledges England's football culture remains special for competitive spirits.

Pochettino's Premier League career includes successful spells with Tottenham, where he spent five years before being sacked in 2019 despite reaching the Champions League final. He also managed Chelsea for one season before leaving by mutual consent in May 2024. The Argentine confirmed Tottenham had contacted him about a return in 2021.

With Tottenham currently searching for a permanent manager and facing a relegation battle, Pochettino's statement adds intrigue. The 51-year-old previously ruled out replacing Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham last summer, calling a return "not realistic" at that time. His current contract with the US national team runs through the 2026 World Cup.
