Newcastle United to Revamp Badge Since 1988

Newcastle United supporters will soon vote on a new crest, the first change since 1988. The club says the current emblem, though popular, struggles to perform in a modern setting, citing difficulties in reproducing its intricacies across digital platforms, broadcasts, and merchandise.

A survey of 19,500 members and season‑ticket holders revealed that 84% want the club to honour its heritage rather than overhaul the design. Supporters ranked the castle, seahorses, black‑and‑white shield and ribbon as the most important elements.

Eligible voters—including season ticket holders, members and those who bought two or more women’s home‑match tickets last season—will choose their favourite design during a two‑week ballot in August. Fans have mixed feelings: some, like Ian and Matt, worry the club’s push feels imposed, while others, Phil and Andy, welcome the chance to shape a more modern, yet respectful, badge.
