Newcastle United closed the deal for 18‑year‑old midfielder Sean Steur from Ajax in a transaction worth up to £23m. The teenager signed a five‑year contract running to 2031 and completed a medical on Wednesday evening in Tyneside.

Steur, who joined Ajax at seven, became a regular in the club’s second half of last season. He started in the De Klassieker win over Feyenoord at 17 and led all 18‑year‑olds in the Eredivisie with 15 chances created, 231 carries and a 56.8% duel success rate. He also logged 623 passes, 89.7% passing accuracy, 20 tackles, 49 possessions won and 46 duels won.

Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe praised the youngster as a “top young prospect” and said the club sees “real potential” and “characteristics to become a valuable player for years to come.” Howe cited Ajax’s reputation for developing talent as evidence of Steur’s pedigree.

The signing injects deep midfield creativity into a squad that has struggled to find a consistent spark. For Steurع, it offers a platform to play in the Premier League, while Newcastle gains a dynamic option that could shape midfield battles for the next five seasons.
