Manchester City have completed a squad overhaul, spending a Premier League record £458m in the summer window. New boss Enzo Maresca received full backing from director of football Hugo Viana. The club broke their transfer record twice, committing £125m for Enzo Fernandez and £116m for Elliot Anderson, with Ayyoub Bouaddi arriving for £86m.

Departures of Bernardo Silva, Rodri, Tijjani Reijnders, and Nico Gonzalez have transformed the midfield. Senior sources are delighted with the business, including January signings Antoine Semenyo and Marc Guehi. Only four players remain from the 2023 Champions League final squad.

City have recouped £334m through sales, including Savinho (£75m), Rodri (£65m), and Reijnders (£52m), making a net spend of £208m. Tottenham's obligation to buy Omar Marmoush for £60m will add to this. The club believes the record fee for Fernandez is justified, Anderson was the top target, and Bouaddi has world-class potential.

However, big questions remain about fitting the new midfield together. More critically, have they left themselves without backup for Erling Haaland? City have won their opening two league games, but the selection dilemma is now Maresca's to solve.
