Mainoo signs long‑term deal with Manchester United

Manchester United have secured midfielder Kobbie Mainoo on a fresh deal that runs until 2031. The 21‑year‑old England international, a Stockport‑born academy graduate, had been linked with a loan to Napoli after falling out of favour under former boss Rúben Amorim. United rebuffed the move, signalling their intent to keep the homegrown talent at Old Trafford. The deal also includes a performance‑related bonus clause.

Since Amorim’s departure in January, interim manager Michael Carrick has started Mainoo in eleven of twelve league fixtures, the only miss coming through injury against Leeds United. His performances have injected energy into United’s midfield, offering tight‑space dribbling and forward passes that complement Bruno Fernandes’s creativity. The club now views Mainoo as a key piece in their push for silverware.

Mainoo’s new contract removes months of speculation and gives United a stable platform for squad planning. At 21, he remains a work‑in‑progress but already ranks among England’s promising midfielders, capable of unlocking defences with clever lay‑offs. Manchester United have locked down a local talent whose long‑term presence could help restore the club’s Champions League ambitions.
