UEFA has strongly condemned the decision, labeling it "unprecedented, incomprehensible and unjustifiable." However, Tebas notes a lack of broader condemnation from football officials outside Europe, suggesting a pattern of FIFA decisions that erode credibility.

Tebas views the Balogun incident as a symptom of deeper issues within FIFA, accusing the organization of operating without transparency and consulting domestic leagues. He believes many in the football world are aware of these practices but remain silent for comfort, rather than defending independence and good governance.
