Former Chelsea and Arsenal midfielder Jorginho has publicly retracted his earlier attack on pop singer Chappell Roan. The Flamengo midfielder said his Instagram claim that the singer “does not deserve” fan affection was misguided, and he apologized for the distress caused to Roan, his wife Catherine and their daughter Ada. He noted the incident had drawn unwanted media attention and strained his family’s privacy.

The controversy began when Jorginho alleged that a hotel security guard had aggressively confronted his wife and eight‑year‑old daughter after they passed Roan’s table at breakfast in São Paulo. Rio de Janeiro mayor Eduardo Cavaliere threatened to bar the singer from performing locally, while Roan insisted she never saw the family and blamed no one. The guard later confirmed he represented another performer at the hotel.

New testimony from the guard revealed he was hired by a different artist, not Roan, and that no security threat existed. Accepting this, Jorginho said he “recognizes when things are not what they seemed,” expressed regret for the episode and declared the matter closed, urging respect and empathy over online attacks. Catherine and Ada were thanked for their patience throughout.
