Sunderland Women have appointed James Gray as chief executive officer following a takeover by Bay Collective. Gray leaves his post as commercial director at the Football Association to start his new role in September.

Gray will manage football operations, strategic performance, and financial sustainability. He joins former FA colleagues Kay Cossington, the CEO of Bay Collective, and Anja van Ginhoven, the group's director of global operations.

Bay Collective also holds a majority stake in Bay FC in the United States. This leadership shift connects Sunderland to a group with existing professional infrastructure in the American market.

Integrating FA commercial expertise into the front office suggests a shift toward aggressive financial growth. The appointment aims to stabilize the club's balance sheet to support higher competitive standards on the pitch.
