Liverpool have hired Andoni Iraola as head coach on a two‑year deal, replacing Arne Slot after the Dutchman’s dismissal. Slot departed a year after guiding the Reds to the Premier League crown, leaving the club searching for a fresh tactical vision. The Saturday announcement placed Iraola in charge of a squad that finished 60 points, the lowest tally since 2015‑16.

Iraola arrives after steering Bournemouth to their best top‑flight finish, sixth place, just three points shy of Liverpool and securing a Europa League berth. The 43‑year‑old Spaniard announced his exit in April, having been linked with Crystal Palace and AC Milan before accepting the Merseyside role. He is expected to bring trusted coaches Tommy Elphick and Shaun Cooper to Anfield.

Liverpool qualified for next season’s Champions League despite a 60‑point haul, their lowest total since 2015‑16 and a full 25 points behind champions Arsenal. Iraola officially praised the club’s global stature and said the chance to work with top talent fuels his ambition. With pre‑season imminent, he will oversee training camps and finalize his backroom team before the first competitive match.
