Hearts on Brink of First League Title Since 1960 After Securing Champions League Spot

Hearts and Celtic have both guaranteed Champions League qualifying spots with two games left in the Scottish Premiership. The league winners enter the play-off round - the stage where Celtic suffered an embarrassing early exit against Kazakh side Kairat Almaty at the start of the campaign. For Hearts, finishing top would represent their first league championship since 1960, ending a 65-year drought.

Hearts can clinch the title by beating Falkirk at home on Wednesday, then avoiding defeat at Celtic Park on Saturday. Should they win in Glasgow, what happens in midweek - when Celtic also visit Motherwell - becomes irrelevant. The Edinburgh club last appeared in Champions League qualifiers after the 2005-06 season, when they finished runners-up to Celtic.

In that campaign, Hearts defeated Siroki Brijeg of Bosnia & Herzegovina in the second qualifying round before losing to AEK Athens. Meanwhile, Rangers will compete in the Conference League qualifiers unless Celtic win the Scottish Cup final against Dunfermline Athletic, which would elevate Danny Rohl's side to the Europa League preliminary rounds.
