Morgan Gibbs-White has emerged as a genuine contender for England's number 10 role at this summer's World Cup after a remarkable second half of the season. The Nottingham Forest midfielder has scored 13 goals in 35 Premier League appearances, with seven of those coming since March.

His form compares favorably to rivals. Gibbs-White has recorded 16 goal contributions from open play this season—the most among contenders like Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden, Eberechi Eze and Morgan Rogers. Twelve of those contributions have come since January, prompting Danny Murphy to say on Match of the Day: "He deserves to be in the conversation."

Time is running out though. England manager Thomas Tuchel must submit his World Cup squad by May 30, with no friendlies scheduled before then. Gibbs-White also faces a fitness race after suffering a head injury in Forest's win at Chelsea, requiring stitches and casting doubt over his availability for Thursday's Europa League semi-final against Aston Villa.

Former Nottingham Forest defender James Perch said: "He can't be doing any more than what he is doing. Tuchel can't ignore him for much longer." Gibbs-White needs to deliver in the remaining games against Newcastle, Manchester United and Bournemouth to force his way into the squad.
