FAW Chief Urges Infantino to Step Down Over World Cup Sell-Off

Football Association of Wales chief executive Noel Mooney says Fifa president Gianni Infantino should step down following the failed proposal to sell stakes in World Cup and other competitions to private investors.

Mooney, who previously worked alongside Infantino at Uefa, acknowledged the president's past achievements including the technical development scheme led by Arsene Wenger, but stated that the "harm that's been done to football" warrants resignation.

Earlier this month, Wales became the first home nation to withdraw backing for Infantino's continued leadership. The controversy intensified after Fifa dismissed senior executive Kevin Lamour for criticizing the sell-off plan. Fifa Council member Sandor Csanyi called Lamour's dismissal "the final straw" in a letter withdrawing support, citing serious shortcomings in leadership and ethical standards.

Fellow council member Dejan Savicevic also withdrew support, describing the situation as "extremely worrying" and highlighting a lack of transparency within Fifa's structures.
