Sunderland's 19-year-old versatile player Emily Cassap has received her maiden senior Northern Ireland call-up for June's World Cup qualifiers against Turkey and Switzerland. The former England youth international switched allegiance earlier this year after previously representing Northern Ireland at Under-19 level. She spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough and can operate in both midfield and defence.

Cassap joins four other changes in Michael McArdle's squad, including Cliftonville defender Fi Morgan's return after a lengthy absence. Glentoran midfielder Mia Moore is also back in the fold. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Maddy Harvey-Clifford replaces injured Abbie Smith, and Kelsie Burrows retains her spot following April's late call-up.

Manager McArdle acknowledged some selections were forced by injuries to Caragh Hamilton and Laura Rafferty. He highlighted that the transition period naturally creates competition for places, stating players want the strongest possible squad. Northern Ireland face Turkey on June 5 before hosting Switzerland on June 9 in their final group matches.

Having already secured a play-off position through their Malta double-header, McArdle's side now aims to preserve their League B status. The squad includes experienced heads alongside emerging talents, reflecting Northern Ireland's building phase ahead of major tournaments.
