An inquest into the death of former Sheffield United footballer Maddy Cusack heard that her coach, Jonathan Morgan, told the Football Association (FA) she was "generally a liar." Morgan testified that Cusack "omitted a lot of information" when speaking with her family about his behavior. The inquest previously heard from Grace Riglar, Cusack's former teammate and girlfriend, who stated Cusack was anxious about Morgan joining Sheffield United after a negative experience with him at Leicester City.

Cusack's mother, Deborah, described Morgan as her daughter's "nemesis," alleging he made comments about Cusack's weight and relationship to "cut her down to size." Morgan denied shouting at Cusack at either club and stated her reduced playing time was due to recovering from a foot injury and the form of other players. He also claimed he never called Riglar and Cusack "Mrs. Cusack" in front of the team, a claim previously made by Cusack's mother.

Morgan told the inquest that Cusack had disclosed her relationship with Riglar at his request, citing past issues with relationships dividing teams. He also admitted telling Cusack she was "too muscular, too bottom-heavy" for his training regime, but stated her performance improved afterward. Morgan noted a behavioral change in Cusack in August 2023, describing her as "less bubbly, less energetic," and contacted the club doctor about his concerns.
