Pep Chavarria has joined Chelsea on a five-year deal, arriving from Rayo Vallecano. Born in Figueres, the left-back built his reputation in Spain's lower tiers with clubs like Olot before moving to Real Zaragoza. His rise continued at Rayo Vallecano, where he developed into a dependable top-flight full-back, making 125 appearances and demonstrating the defensive aggression and physicality required for elite football.

Chavarria's arrival follows the departure of Marc Cucurella to Real Madrid. The move allows Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso to bolster his squad and potentially replicate the wing-back system that secured the Bundesliga title for Bayer Leverkusen. Chavarria's ability to compete against top-tier opposition was notably highlighted during a goalless draw against Real Madrid.

Negotiations were described as complicated, as Rayo Vallecano initially demanded his £42.4m release clause be met. However, Chelsea secured the player for £16m, adding significant depth to the defense alongside new signing Marco Palestra.
