The deadline is 17:00 BST on Friday to end uncertainty before the season. New boss Xabi Alonso has spoken to Fernandez but declined details. Chelsea are willing to reintegrate him. Last season, Fernandez scored 15 goals and provided seven assists in 54 appearances. He helped Argentina reach the World Cup final, where he was sent off in a 1-0 loss to Spain.
