Dave Challinor has parted ways with Stockport County by mutual consent after nearly five years as manager. The 50-year-old led the Hatters from the National League to League One, winning 144 of 268 games. The club confirmed his departure following defeat to Bolton in the League One play-off final, which denied them Championship promotion.

Challinor, who signed a new long-term deal just last year, oversaw one of Stockport's most successful modern eras. The club statement praised him for transforming their trajectory and creating "numerous memorable moments." He'll be remembered as joining "County legends" according to owner Mark Stott, with the club reaching at least the play-offs every season during his tenure.

The departures of CEO Simon Wilson and keeper Ben Hinchliffe signal a changing era at Edgeley Park. Challinor, the EFL's fifth longest-serving manager, confirmed plans for time away with his family despite being linked with the vacant Blackburn Rovers job. The mutual decision comes after "long and constructive discussions" as the club enters a new phase.
