Carrick to Get United Job? Executives Set to Recommend Interim Boss

Manchester United senior executives are set to recommend Michael Carrick to Sir Jim Ratcliffe as the club's permanent manager. Carrick took over on an interim basis following Ruben Amorim's dismissal, which came after poor results and increasingly strained relations with club officials over the Portuguese coach's tactics during his 14-month tenure.

Carrick has steadied the club and impressed with his work both on and off the pitch. He previously held a three-game stint as temporary boss in 2021 after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's dismissal. Internally, he has been praised for his commitment to youth development and players have publicly called for him to be given the job permanently.

United explored other options, but some candidates decided to stay where they are – England boss Thomas Tuchel opted against leaving, while Luis Enrique remains committed to PSG. Carrick's side conclude their 2025-26 campaign with fixtures against Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford on Sunday, 17 May and a final-day trip to Brighton on 24 May.
