Burnley has named Nicky Hayen as their new head coach, signing the Belgian tactician to a three-year contract. Hayen, 45, takes over from Scott Parker, who departed by mutual agreement following the club's relegation from the Premier League. Hayen most recently managed Genk in the Belgian top flight, guiding them to a seventh-place finish last season.

Hayen's appointment follows unsuccessful attempts to recruit Craig Bellamy and a reported rejection from Rob Edwards. He previously had a stint with Welsh club Haverfordwest County between 2021 and 2022. Hayen expressed his enthusiasm for joining a club with a rich history and passionate fanbase, acknowledging he needs to make his mark on supporters unfamiliar with his work.

He will join the Clarets for their pre-season tour in the United States. Burnley's first competitive fixture under Hayen will be the Carabao Cup first-round tie against Notts County on August 8th. Their Championship campaign kicks off the following Sunday with a home match against West Ham.
