Bruno Fernandes matches Premier League assist record in stunning season

Bruno Fernandes equalled the Premier League single-season assist record with his 20th assist in Manchester United's win over Nottingham Forest. Creating eight chances — four more than any other player — he nearly added a 21st before Joshua Zirkzee's shot was saved. Gary Neville called it "a magical moment" as Fernandes matched Kevin de Bruyne and Thierry Henry's mark.

Since his January 2020 arrival, no player has created more chances than Bruno Fernandes — 670 total, 238 ahead of De Bruyne. He's made 71 Premier League assists with 70 goals, and only five players have scored more. Combined goals and assists since 2020 put him at 141, behind only Mohamed Salah's 193.

Last season United nearly accepted a massive Al-Hilal offer and left the decision to Fernandes. His wife reportedly asked whether he'd achieved everything he wanted at Old Trafford. He chose to stay and delivered 16 goal contributions in 15 games, sweeping United into the Champions League.

With one match left against Brighton, he could break the record outright. No individual has done more to lift their team this season — and United's hierarchy should be grateful he did.
