Teenage striker Brian Madjo scored on his Aston Villa debut in Uefa Super Cup defeat by Paris St‑Germain, ending an eight‑month wait for a competitive appearance. Villa had fought since the start of the year to register the 6ft 4in player after his £10m arrival from Metz, arguing his London birth exempted him despite three Luxembourg caps. With Ollie Watkins rested and Tammy Abraham on the bench, manager Emery gave the youngster the starting role.

Madjo’s first‑half strike, a volley from John Mc Ginn’s cross, cancelled out Kvaratskhelia’s opener, only for Desire Doue to reply after a VAR‑checked second‑half goal. Earlier he missed a free header and shot wide, but remained a nuisance to PSG’s Marquinhos. “He played because he was showing us his capacity to work and be demanding,” Emery said, noting Madjo’s defensive commitment as well as his goals. The breakthrough came after Villa took their case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in July, allowing Madjo to join the Salzburg travelling party.
