Bournemouth's Elphick Rejects Bristol City Move

Tommy Elphick will remain at Bournemouth after turning down the chance to become Bristol City's new manager. The 38-year-old assistant has chosen to stay at the Vitality Stadium as part of Marco Rose's coaching team, ending the Robins' pursuit of the former Brighton defender. Bristol City had moved for Elphick ahead of other candidates.

Bristol City targeted Elphick despite his success being limited compared to Michael Skubala, who guided Lincoln to the League One title. The Imps boss recently signed a new deal after Bristol triggered his release clause. Portsmouth's John Mousinho was also in contention for the vacancy left after Roy Hodgson's interim spell following Gerhard Struber's departure in March.

Hodgson took Bristol City to 12th in the Championship last season, 11 points off the top six. The club's new sporting director James Ellis, formerly with Arsenal, continues searching for a permanent manager. Elphick, who played 145 times for Bournemouth as a player and has been coaching there since 2021, will now focus on his role with Marco Rose's staff.
