Manchester City have secured England forward Beth Mead on a free transfer from Arsenal, with the 31-year-old signing a three-year deal. Mead, who earned 81 caps and featured in the Lionesses' back-to-back European Championship victories in 2022 and 2025, left the Gunners when her contract expired in May. She scored for England against Ukraine just this week.

The move reunites Mead with England teammate Niamh Charles, who City signed from Chelsea after agreeing a fee on Wednesday. Mead spent nine successful years at Arsenal, winning the WSL, Champions League and three League Cups. She received an emotional farewell during Arsenal's final home game against Everton in May.

City's director of women's football Therese Sjogran praised Mead's quality, stating she can help build on last season's Double success. Mead joins an attacking lineup featuring Lauren Hemp, Kerolin and Khadija Shaw. She expressed excitement about the "new chapter" and believes City's style suits her game perfectly.

This signing strengthens City's already formidable squad ahead of their Champions League campaign. Mead brings international experience and proven WSL pedigree. Her addition gives manager Andree Jeglertz more attacking options as they aim to defend their domestic crown while competing in Europe.
