Takehiro Tomiyasu is poised to join Ajax on a free transfer, the Japanese defender set to undergo a medical on Tuesday, BBC Sport reports. The 27-year-old's move follows a mutual agreement with Arsenal to terminate his contract a year early, freeing him from his Gunners deal. Arsenal signed defenders Piero Hincapie and Cristhian Mosquera this summer, limiting Tomiyasu's first-team chances despite his 84 appearances for the club since joining from Bologna in 2021.

His final Arsenal game was a 3-1 win over Southampton in October 2024. Tomiyasu has been rehabilitating from knee surgery in February and is now back training. Sources indicate his Ajax agreement includes no extension option. Ajax are currently fourth in the Eredivisie.
