Lee Westwood hit back at Rory McIlroy’s questioning of LIV golfers, calling the comments “typical” of the reigning Masters champion. Westwood, who will debut on the Legends Tour next week, said he doesn’t care what people think and highlighted that promoters and sponsors welcome LIV players into their events. He added that many LIV golfers bring value to tournaments.

McIlroy warned ahead of the BMW Championship that a return to the PGA Tour or DP World Tour could be a “tough road back” for LIV stars, while Scottie Scheffler noted that returning players could add value but should face penalties. Scheffler’s stance was seen as a more balanced answer than McIlroy’s, which Westwood deemed poorly thought out.

LIV Golf has secured an unnamed investor to move into a ‘next chapter’ and CEO Scott O’Neil said there is a “very compressed timeline” to finalize funding beyond the end of the 2026 season. Bryson De Chambeau echoed uncertainty about his contract, stressing that the league is working hard to prove its value and hoping fans will give it another shot.
