DURHAM, N. C. -- Head coach Jon Scheyer confirmed at Duke's media day that he's in it for the "long haul" with the Blue Devils, calling Duke his dream job after a brief offseason pursuit by the Dallas Mavericks. The Mavericks ultimately hired Dusty May, former Michigan coach.

Scheyer, 33, succeeded legendary Mike Krzyzewski, who won five national championships during his 42 seasons. Under Scheyer, Duke has reached the Elite Eight in three straight seasons, including a Final Four in 2025. The Blue Devils posted 70 wins over the past two seasons, including a 35-3 campaign last year -- the best two-year stretch in program history.

However, both recent runs ended heartbreakingly: Duke lost to Houston in the 2025 national semifinal after leading by nine with two minutes left, and fell to UConn last season despite leading by 19 in the regional final. Scheyer enters the upcoming season without the nation's best player for the first time since 2023-24, following the departures of Cooper Flagg and Cameron Boozer. This year's roster will feature more experienced players, with five potential starters having college experience.

Duke, ranked No. 2 in ESPN's preseason top 25, opens the season against Army on Nov. 2.
