Playoffs
The Guardians took control of the ALCS with a 3-2 win over the Rays, taking a 2-1 series lead after Petey Halpin's go-ahead, two-run homer. Tampa Bay's bats were held in check, and Junior Caminero and the rest of the lineup struck out 13 times in the loss, a total the Rays have vowed to address before the next game.
In the NL, the Dodgers face a must-win Game 4 after falling behind 3-0 in their best-of-seven series. Manager Dave Roberts has responded by returning Shohei Ohtani to the leadoff spot in an effort to jumpstart the offense.
Managerial and Front Office Moves
Joe Espada will not return as Astros manager, despite guiding Houston to two AL West titles, and the team will look for a new skipper. In Philadelphia, president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski has filled the manager's chair, and Don Mattingly said he is ready to put his stamp on the Phillies, insisting the club "really wasn't my team" before his arrival.
Free Agency
Former Yankees utility man Oswaldo Cabrera agreed to a $1 million, one-year contract with the Reds, adding infield and outfield depth to Cincinnati's roster.
