WhatsApp is dipping its toes into paid subscriptions. The company has begun testing WhatsApp Plus, a monthly service that costs €2.49 in Europe, with similar pricing in Pakistan (PKR 229) and Mexico (MXN 29). The subscription unlocks a suite of customization options that go well beyond what the free app offers.

Subscribers gain access to premium stickers, 18 color themes for the app interface, and the ability to set a custom icon visible on the home screen and in the app drawer. The service also raises chat pinning limits from 3 to 20 conversations, adds 10 exclusive ringtones, and enables bulk settings application across multiple chats and groups. Users can create custom lists where new conversations automatically inherit theme settings.

The feature is currently available to a limited number of testers, with Android getting priority support first and iOS planned for later. Importantly, all core WhatsApp features—including end-to-end encryption—remain free, and the company hasn't moved any existing functionality behind a paywall. All Plus features are entirely new additions.
