Sonos has launched the Ace Ultra, an upgraded version of its debut headphones featuring expanded system integration. Unlike the original Ace, which only swapped TV audio from compatible soundbars, the Ace Ultra links directly to any Sonos speaker or soundbar. Users can move audio — including TV, local library, turntable, and streaming content — to the headphones with a single button press, and press again to return it. Sonos labels this an Early Access feature requiring opt-in.

The Headphone Engine 2 platform adds redesigned Wi-Fi hardware for broader compatibility. Improvements include 2x more active noise cancellation (ANC) performance via two extra microphones, an 8-band EQ, and up to 35 hours battery life with ANC on — five hours more than the predecessor. New ear pads enhance passive isolation, while adaptive ANC, sidetone, and the Content Key control return.

Dolby Atmos and lossless audio via Bluetooth (aptX Adaptive) or wired USB-C remain supported. The Ace Ultra arrives September 29 for $449 (£399/€449/AUD $699) in black, white, tan (Sand), and blue (Agave), a $50 increase over the original Ace, which stays in the lineup.
