Apple plans to introduce AI chatbot integration with Siri in iOS 27, scheduled for announcement at WWDC on June 8. The feature will allow services like Claude to work through an Extensions system, enabling more third-party AI assistants to interact with Siri on iPhones, iPads, and Macs. This represents a significant shift from Apple's previous limited ChatGPT integration introduced in iOS 18.

This approach doesn't alter Apple's existing agreement with Google for Gemini AI models that power certain Siri features and Apple Intelligence. The Extensions system will appear across iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27, requiring developers to update their applications to support the new functionality. Users will be directed to a new App Store section to add additional AI services.

Meanwhile, AI chatbots can now integrate with CarPlay starting with iOS 26.4. Apple is also testing a standalone Siri app that will support the extension framework. The company continues expanding Siri's capabilities while maintaining partnerships with major AI providers.
