Alphabet, Google's parent company, reported a 24% revenue increase in the second quarter, reaching $119.8 billion, largely driven by its cloud division's 82% jump to $24.8 billion. Despite strong sales and net income of $112.1 billion, the company's free cash flow turned negative due to significant investments in data centers for artificial intelligence computing. Alphabet plans up to $190 billion in capital expenditures this year, primarily to support AI initiatives, and recently announced an $85 billion equity raise.

Google has been actively competing in the AI race, releasing its Gemini 3 model and aiming to keep pace with rivals. However, the company's stock experienced fluctuations, including a dip after reports of a delayed release for its Gemini 3.5 Pro model and broader tech sector declines influenced by competitor advancements. Key researchers also departed for Anthropic, impacting the stock in June.

The cloud business continues to be a significant growth driver for Alphabet, bolstering its financial performance amidst substantial R&D and infrastructure spending for AI development.
