Prince William has launched On Your Side, a nationwide suicide prevention toolkit for sport, backed by over 70 organisations including the Football Association, Premier League, Team GB, and British Cycling. Unveiled on World Suicide Prevention Day (10 September), the Royal Foundation initiative aims to embed suicide prevention into sporting culture as routinely as warm-ups and training. The Prince of Wales, 44, said current support is often "fragmented" and "inconsistent, particularly at a grassroots level," and hopes the toolkit provides "clear, practical guidance" for anyone in sport who notices someone struggling.

A promotional video features England captain Harry Kane, F1 driver George Russell, and rugby World Cup winner Rochelle 'Rocky' Clark. The launch took place at Everton's Hill Dickinson Stadium, chosen for its 'talking bench' honouring former player Gary Speed, who died by suicide in 2011. Premier League record goalscorer Alan Shearer, a close friend of Speed, endorsed the project, urging everyone in sport to use the resources.

According to the Office for National Statistics, 6,190 suicides were registered in England and Wales in 2024, remaining the biggest killer of men under 50. Developed over two years with the NHS, Samaritans, and Mind, On Your Side is designed as a long-term legacy, not a one-day campaign.
