George Russell grabbed pole for the Canadian Grand Prix with a 1m12.579s lap, barely edging out Mercedes team-mate Antonelli and Lando Norris in a chaotic Q3. Both Mercedes cars struggled early, with Russell bailing on his first attempt. Antonelli briefly leapfrogged Norris before Russell found another tenth in the dying seconds, earning his second season pole.

Russell and Antonelli will start alongside each other, mirroring Saturday's sprint positions where the pair collided at Turn 1. Verstappen described his Red Bull as like "driving on ice" but still posted the sixth-fastest time. Hamilton qualified fifth, Leclerc eighth and vocal about his Ferrari, while Lindblad and Colapinto out-qualified their more experienced teammates.

The chilly Circuit Gilles Villeneuve threw up problems for many, with front tyres proving hard to warm. Gasly qualified 14th, Sainz 15th, and Bottas spun into last after going off at Turn 1. Alonso's Aston Martin failed to reach Q2, joining the eliminated Aston Martin and Cadillac entries. The grid sets up a tense opening lap with two Mercedes side by side and bad blood from the sprint.
