Lewis Hamilton claimed Ferrari's first win of the 2026 season at Barcelona, ending a streak of runner‑ups. After two straight second places to Kimi Antonelli, Hamilton said his 106th victory felt “closer” than ever. The win came after a strategic pit cycle that left Mercedes stranded on hard tyres.

Mercedes governor George Russell finished second after Antonelli’s engine failed with three laps to go. The Italian retired from third, allowing Russell to claim the runner‑up spot. Lando Norris rounded the podium, a first for the Red Bull driver under the new 2026 regulations.

Ferrari’s strategy shift saw Hamilton pit for mediums on lap 28, cutting a gap to Russell. A VSC on lap 41 allowed Hamilton to re‑pit and re‑take the lead by 2.5 seconds. Mercedes could not match the Ferrari pace, ending their clean sweep of the season’s start.

With Antonelli now 41 points ahead of Hamilton, the Italian extends his lead in the drivers’ standings. Russell’s 50‑point deficit shrinks, keeping the midfield battle alive. Ferrari’s success demonstrates the effectiveness of the new tyre regulations and the team’s rapid adaptation.
