Ferrari's 180-Degree Rotating F1 Wing

Ferrari has unveiled an innovative rear wing during Bahrain pre-season testing with an upper flap that rotates 180 degrees to function upside down. Tested by Lewis Hamilton, this design positions the wing's turning axis at the leading edge, completely flipping the element's aerodynamic properties. The approach represents a significant departure from traditional DRS systems used in previous seasons.

Unlike previous DRS regulations with fixed 85mm slot gaps, current active aero rules offer teams more freedom. While Alpine and Audi opted for front-mounted hinges, Ferrari chose to maximize drag reduction by completely changing the wing's working conditions. This creates smaller drag coefficients when activated, improving straight-line performance without reducing frontal area.

The wing appears legal under F1 regulations as long as movement occurs within 0.4 seconds and no concave radii less than 100mm are visible from above. Ferrari has designated this as a test item, with the team evaluating whether to incorporate this innovation into the 2026 season based on performance data collected during testing.
