The updated 067/6 engine features a steel-alloy cylinder head design that enables higher combustion temperatures than traditional aluminum components, reducing the risk of structural failure. This technical evolution represents Ferrari's ongoing effort to close the performance gap with championship leader Mercedes.

The package combines the advanced engine architecture with specially formulated Shell fuel developed collaboratively through Enrico Gualtieri's power unit division and Shell's Hamburg laboratory. Engineers aim to maximize efficiency by allowing intake air temperatures exceeding 115C through the intercooler, up from previous 100C limits. These modifications fall under ADUO regulations governing additional development opportunities.

Lewis Hamilton's Barcelona victory provided momentum for Maranello's technical improvements, though the team recently dealt with Charles Leclerc's electronic system failure that disabled power steering and aerodynamic controls. Ferrari demonstrated superior tyre management and reduced drag in Spain, ending Mercedes' streak of six consecutive wins. The SF-26's aerodynamic refinements proved decisive in the Barcelona contest.

Red Bull will counter with major upgrades at its home circuit, making Austria a critical benchmark for Ferrari's progress.
