F1 Drivers Face Penalties Despite Rule Tweaks

After winning the Miami sprint race, Lando Norris criticized F1's technical regulation changes, stating drivers still get penalized for pushing limits. The McLaren driver described the modifications as a 'first step in the right direction' but emphasized that from a driver's perspective, more improvements are needed to allow flat-out racing without penalties.

The FIA and Formula 1 implemented tweaks to energy management to address dangerous closing speeds and improve qualifying performance. However, Norris noted these changes have had minimal impact on racing dynamics. The Miami International Autodrome's characteristics masked some issues, with yo-yo racing still present but masked by high temperatures causing tire overheating when following another car.

Ferrari's Charles Leclerc supported Norris's view, acknowledging realistic expectations are necessary. 'We cannot change so much either,' the Monegasque driver stated, suggesting the FIA's approach was correct but fundamental improvements to the product remain a long-term goal. Both drivers anticipate continued challenges with energy management despite the regulatory tweaks.
