Kimi Antonelli has been handed a three-place grid drop for the Hungarian Grand Prix after stewards ruled he failed to sufficiently respect yellow flags during qualifying. The Mercedes driver originally qualified fourth at the Hungaroring, behind McLaren's Lando Norris and the two Ferraris.

On his final run, Antonelli encountered yellow flags in the final corner where Max Verstappen had spun and stopped in the runoff. Despite the flags, the Italian improved his final sector time. Stewards found he lifted only marginally — 16 metres earlier — and was actually 3 km/h faster past the incident site due to less braking. The mini-sector time was just 0.03s slower than his best.

The FIA deemed the speed reduction "insufficient and unsustained," noting it was less than 1% slower. While guidelines recommend a five-place drop, mitigating factors — limited reaction time and some speed reduction — reduced it to three places. Antonelli also receives a penalty point and a warning for exceeding minimum delta times on his in-lap.

Lewis Hamilton was also penalised three places for impeding Oscar Piastri in Turn 1, promoting Piastri to third and Verstappen to the second row.
