Fernando Alonso maintains full confidence in Adrian Newey's design abilities, dismissing concerns about the F1 legend's capability despite Aston Martin's difficult pre-season. The world champion specifically praised Newey's chassis expertise, noting the 12-title designer hasn't "forgotten how to design a Formula 1 car" despite the team's current challenges with the new 2026 regulations.

Aston Martin faces significant hurdles entering the new rules era. The Silverstone outfit began its wind tunnel program four months late, resulting in limited testing miles. In Barcelona, they didn't hit the track until day four, while Bahrain testing saw Lance Stroll complete just 36 laps on day one. Stroll admitted the team is "four seconds off" pace, though Alonso managed 98 laps on day two with the second slowest time.

Team ambassador Pedro de la Rosa emphasizes Newey's leadership as a turning point, noting his clear direction unites the team. "We are not happy, but we are not worried," de la Rosa stated, contrasting the current situation with previous years where theories divided the squad. Despite the slow start, the former driver believes Newey's presence provides the foundation to overcome their testing struggles.
