Kagi is ending development of Orion for Linux and Windows, open-sourcing both so the community can carry them forward. The company is stepping back from these platforms to focus its small, user-funded team on Orion for mac OS and i OS.
Orion was built the hard way by not forking Chromium. The response to the Linux announcement was overwhelming, with users testing early builds and filing bug reports. Kagi is not backed by venture capital, so it chose to concentrate its energy rather than spread a small team across three platforms.
Orion for mac OS and i OS will get faster, more stable, and more capable. Source code for the Linux and Windows versions will be released in the next 30 days. Kagi will not be the core maintainer and has reached out to open-source foundations about long-term stewardship.
The current Linux Beta will stop receiving updates from Kagi after October 2, 2026. The planned Windows launch in late 2026 will not come from Kagi; the code will instead be available for the community to build on.
