Unlike individual AI assistants, workspace agents can prepare reports, write code, and respond to messages continuously in the cloud, maintaining progress even when team members are offline.

The agents integrate seamlessly with existing workflows across dozens of tools, gathering context from multiple systems. OpenAI demonstrates their versatility with examples like a Software Reviewer that checks employee requests against policies, a Product Feedback Router that monitors various channels, and a Weekly Metrics Reporter that automatically compiles data.

Currently available in research preview for Business, Enterprise, Edu, and Teachers plans, workspace agents remain free until May 6, 2026. Admins maintain control through enterprise-grade monitoring and compliance APIs.
