OpenAI is launching the OpenAI Economic Research Exchange, a new platform to support high‑impact external research on the economic effects of AI. This initiative builds on OpenAI’s broader effort to improve measurement of AI’s economic impact, including the OpenAI Signals program.

Through the Exchange, selected researchers will conduct project‑based collaborations with OpenAI Economic Research, using structured, privacy‑protected OpenAI tools and datasets to generate credible, independent evidence on how AI impacts workers, firms, institutions, and the broader economy. The collaborations will be carefully scoped, with defined milestones, data governance, and independent review to ensure responsible use of data.

We welcome proposals from scholars with strong empirical skills and expertise in applied causal inference, measurement, labor economics, productivity, firms, education, entrepreneurship, public finance, regional economics, development, inequality, or related fields, ensuring rigor, feasibility, clear milestones, and the potential to contribute external evidence. Proposals must explain how privacy‑protected use of OpenAI tools can answer specific research questions, and they will be judged on methodological rigor, feasibility, alignment with Exchange priorities, and potential impact.

Applications close July 5, 2026; selected researchers will be notified by July 31, 2026. For details, see the Request for Proposals or contact [email protected].
