OpenAI is introducing three new plugins for ChatGPT Edu and ChatGPT for Teachers, designed to help students and educators leverage AI with course materials and context. These plugins aim to support learning rather than shortcut it, keeping users in control.

The new plugins include one for college students, one for K–12 educators, and one for college educators. By connecting to existing tools like documents and calendars, they understand context and assist users in moving from ideas to execution. ChatGPT Edu, launched in 2024, offers managed workspaces with enterprise-level privacy and security. ChatGPT for Teachers, introduced in 2025, is free for verified U.S. K–12 educators and districts.

The K–12 Educator plugin helps teachers create differentiated resources and interactive visuals, integrating with resources like Learning Commons. The College Educator plugin aids in course design, teaching, and academic planning, allowing faculty to update syllabi and create assessments. The College Student plugin provides personalized learning experiences, acting as a guided tutor and helping students create study guides and interactive explanations from their chosen sources.

These plugins aim to help users develop agency with AI, bridging the gap between AI capabilities and user application. OpenAI is also expanding access and support through initiatives like the Student Collective and workshops for K–12 teachers, partnering with institutions and foundations to promote responsible AI use in education.
