ChatGPT now handles files directly in chat

OpenAI's latest ChatGPT update lets users drop files straight into a conversation, turning the chat window into a lightweight data‑processing hub. Supported types span CSV, XLSX, PDF, DOCX, JPEG, PNG, TXT and more, so spreadsheets, documents, images or raw text can be inspected without opening separate apps. After uploading, users simply pose a question or task and watch the model act on the content.

Typical prompts include “Summarize the main findings in this report and flag any risks,” “Visualize sales data by region with month‑over‑month changes,” or “Rewrite this draft for clarity while preserving tone.” For deeper workflows, ChatGPT can call third‑party apps—once authenticated via Settings → Apps—allowing spreadsheets to be returned as updated files or PDFs to be downloaded directly.

Enterprises gain an extra layer of control: admins decide which apps appear for their teams, and any data processed through those integrations stays out of OpenAI’s training pools by default. By collapsing file handling, visualization and editing into a single chat, teams can cut context‑switching overhead and keep sensitive information within corporate boundaries. The feature reshapes everyday AI‑assisted productivity.
