AutoScout24 Group, the pan-European and Canadian auto marketplace, is scaling engineering by integrating OpenAI's AI tools to tackle system complexity. The company, which connects 30M monthly users with 2M listings across 45,000 dealers, faced pressure to innovate faster as product demands rose. To address this, it rolled out ChatGPT for 2,000 employees and embedded Codex into engineering workflows for 1,000 builder staff. This dual AI strategy aims to cut development timelines from 2–3 weeks to 2–3 days for select projects while improving code quality and enabling non-engineers to prototype ideas.

The push comes as AutoScout24 seeks to enhance buyer experiences and dealer sales efficiency. By evaluating AI tools like Codex over three months, the company found it improved productivity and code quality. It established an AI Champions network to scale adoption, turning AI into a workflow extension rather than a standalone tool. This approach has accelerated innovation across the platform, aligning with the company’s goal of continuous improvement in vehicle search, evaluation, and purchase processes.

CTO Frederik Kraus emphasizes that AI is transforming both what the company delivers and how it’s built. By combining broad AI access with deep workflow integration, AutoScout24 is prioritizing real-world use cases over mandates, fostering organic adoption. The strategy focuses on augmenting team capabilities, not replacing them, to unlock new efficiencies in product development. Moving forward, the company plans to deepen AI integration into core systems to further enhance user experiences and empower teams.
