Xbox One Voltage Glitch Hack 'Bliss' Breaks 2013 Console Security

At the RE//verse 2026 conference, Markus 'Doom' Gaasedelen revealed 'Bliss,' a groundbreaking hardware hack that finally compromises Microsoft's supposedly unhackable Xbox One. The 2013 console, which Microsoft engineers once called 'the most secure product Microsoft has ever produced,' has fallen to voltage glitching after years of remaining impenetrable.

Gaasedelen's technique exploits two precise voltage glitches targeting the CPU's power rail. The first bypasses ARM Cortex memory protection setup, while the second manipulates Memcpy operations during header reads. This unpatchable hardware attack against the boot ROM allows loading unsigned code at every level, including the hypervisor and operating system.

The exploit provides archivists unprecedented access to Xbox One firmware, OS, and games, potentially enabling emulation breakthroughs. While PC gamers may have little interest in emulating the console's largely PC-overlapping library, the technical achievement represents a significant milestone in console security research.
