Vancouver's Penthouse Night Club had its Instagram account taken down after a witty marquee sign on Seymour Street called out U.S. President Donald J. Trump's renaming of Lake Ontario. Owner Danny Filippone and sign-maker Ben Jackson updated the marquee with the message "Can't handle a pool, but wants our lake?" referencing Trump's trade disputes with Canada and the algae-filled Washington reflecting pool scandal.

Filippone reported that shortly after the sign went up Friday afternoon, their Instagram was "wiped out" around midnight. Jackson had posted the sign photo with the caption "Make Lakes Ontario Again." Filippone noted international support, stating, "They appreciate that there's a strip bar on Seymour Street of all the places fighting back." The club, operating for 80 years, has a history of viral political signs. Previously, a "Forever Neighbours, Never Neighbors" sign led to a Twitter/X account suspension for alleged "hate speech." Jackson is currently in contact with Meta to restore the account, asserting, "I don't think a funny sign should be one of them." The sign's popularity highlights rising Canada-U.S. tensions, with Filippone remarking, "Once again, it always amazes me how the Penthouse Night Club... has become a part of Vancouver.".
