The United States is making a historically unprecedented bet on Artificial Intelligence, with combined spending on data centers, computers, and software now exceeding $1 trillion annually. This massive investment boom has seen hyperscalers like Meta, Alphabet, Amazon, and Microsoft collectively pour over $600 billion into physical infrastructure this year alone, up from $370 billion in 2025.

This AI infrastructure push is transforming the US economy, with data center construction hitting a $42 billion annualized pace and computer investment surging to $270 billion. Software development spending now dwarfs new home construction at $750 billion annually. The scale is staggering - AI-related investment now represents roughly 3.5% of US GDP, surpassing historic infrastructure projects like the interstate highway system and Apollo program.

Unlike previous tech booms, this investment is uniquely concentrated in the United States. While Canadian and UK computer investment remains below 2022 levels, and EU and Japanese investment shows no rapid acceleration, American companies are doubling down. The majority of these AI-related imports come tariff-free from Taiwan, Mexico, and Malaysia, with US imports from Taiwan now matching those from China. This massive infrastructure buildout is driving record semiconductor production, straining electricity grids in Texas and the mid-Atlantic, and fundamentally reshaping America's economic landscape.
