Two Frankfurt Airport workers have died from malaria after a rare local outbreak infected six employees. German health officials believe the mosquitoes arrived on a plane, marking an unusual case of airport malaria. The airport operator Fraport confirmed one death, while health authorities later reported two fatalities.

Mosquito traps have been set, and blood samples are being analyzed to determine if a single mosquito caused the infections. Officials stress the risk to the public remains very low, as the disease is not transmitted person-to-person.
